Questions
The things people ask us most, in short. Anything else, get in touch and one of us will reply within two working days.
Ordering
How much does 3D printing cost?
It depends on how much filament a print uses and how long it takes on the printer. Upload your file on the order page and you’ll see the exact price straight away. How our prices work has the rates and worked examples.
How long does it take?
Most orders are printed and posted within 5 working days, then Royal Mail Tracked 48 usually takes 2 to 3 working days. Large prints and orders with artwork can take a little longer, and we’ll tell you if so.
What files can I send?
STL, 3MF and OBJ files are priced instantly. STEP and OpenSCAD files are welcome too, with a personal quote. Files can be up to 50 MB. No file? What can you 3D print? has ideas and where to find one.
How big can you print?
Up to 300 × 320 × 320 mm in one piece. Anything bigger can be printed in parts to put together.
Do I need an account?
No. You can check out as a guest, and look up your order any time on Track your order. An account just saves your details for next time.
Does anyone check my file before it prints?
Yes, one of us looks over every file before it goes on the printer. If a wall is too thin or a part won’t stand up, we email you before we start. For personalised work and business batches, we send a proof first.
Materials and colours
Which material should I choose?
PLA for most things that live indoors. PETG for things that bend a little, get wet or go outside. ABS for parts that get warm or take a knock. Choosing a material compares them properly.
How many colours are there?
There are over 180, in finishes from matte to silk, sparkle and wood. Designs and 3MF files can have a different colour for each part, and colour changes are free.
Can you add my logo or a name?
Yes. Add a logo or picture when you upload your file, printed in its own colours, raised from the surface or pressed into it. Designs that can be personalised have a box for a name on their page.
How strong will it be?
You choose: Light for display pieces, Standard for everyday things, and Strong for parts that take a load. A print is strongest along its layers, so if it has to take weight one way, say so in the notes and we’ll print it the right way up.
Is it safe for food?
We don’t recommend prints for food or drink: the tiny gaps between layers can hold bacteria.
Delivery and returns
How much is delivery?
£3.95, tracked by Royal Mail. UK delivery is free on orders over £40, counted before any gift card or code comes off. Prints too big for a small parcel cost a little more, and the order page tells you before you buy.
Do you deliver outside the UK?
Not yet: UK addresses only for now.
Can I send it back?
Our designs can be returned unused within 14 days of delivery. Prints of your own file, lithophanes made from your photo and anything with a name added are made just for you, so they can only be returned if they’re faulty. Delivery and returns has the details.
What if it arrives damaged?
Send us your order number and a photo, and we’ll put it right.
Gifts and businesses
Can you send it straight to someone as a present?
Yes. At checkout, add your message and their address: we put the message in the parcel, and there are never any prices inside. The gift guide has ideas, and a gift card arrives by email in minutes.
Do you print for businesses?
Yes: branded items, name tags with a different name on each, parts and short runs, with prices that go down the more you order. See strand commercial, and for one-offs, prototypes and school projects.
